How it works
Official weekly figures · projection labelled · sources linkedThe live number = latest official total + (the official change per second over the past 12 months × seconds since that total). Taiwan publishes its debt once a week, not daily, so this is a projection between weekly figures, not an official figure.
projected = 5,936,400,000,000 + 1,065.1964 × (seconds since Oct 16, 2026 11:59:59 PM CT)
The rate is the official change from Oct 17, 2025 to Oct 16, 2026: NT$5,936,400,000,000 − NT$5,902,900,000,000 = NT$33,500,000,000 over 364 days = NT$1,065.20 per second. We use the latest twelve months rather than the last few weeks because changes between single weekly figures swing with the issuance calendar. The actual path is lumpy (bonds are sold in batches and repaid on schedules), so the projection will drift; when new weekly figures come out, the clock re-bases to the new official figures.
How often it's published. Weekly. The National Treasury Administration updates its open dataset about weekly; the page re-bases to each new row. The National Treasury Administration updates the figure about weekly; this page re-bases to each new row automatically on the next daily build after it appears.
Per person divides by the Ministry of the Interior's estimate of 23,213,251 people on Oct 16, 2026. It is not projected forward, so the live per-person figure rises only with the debt.
Note. Why this dataset: it is the National Treasury Administration's own machine-readable open dataset of central government debt, updated weekly, and carries the date of each row.
Note. Scope: central government only. Debt of local governments is reported separately and is not in the number. The Public Debt Act's debt ceiling counts only debts of one year or more, a narrower measure than this page's total; the two parts are shown in the breakdown.
Note. Currency: New Taiwan dollars. The Taiwan central bank does not publish daily rates in a machine-readable form that the daily build can read, so the World Debt Clock converts at the US Federal Reserve's weekly H.10 rate for TWD, labelled on that page.
Note. Population: the same open dataset reports the Ministry of the Interior's registered population for each date, which this page uses for the per-person figures.
Note. Figures from source tables may not add exactly because of rounding in the source.
