How it works
Official monthly figures · projection labelled · sources linkedThe live number = latest official total + (the official change per second over the past 12 months × seconds since that total). Mexico publishes its debt once a month, not daily, so this is a projection between monthly figures, not an official figure.
projected = 18,471,420,000,000 + 43,473.4906 × (seconds since Aug 31, 2026 11:59:59 PM CT)
The rate is the official change from Aug 31, 2025 to Aug 31, 2026: MX$18,471,420,000,000 − MX$17,100,440,000,000 = MX$1,370,980,000,000 over 365 days = MX$43,473.49 per second. We use 12 months rather than the last month because month-to-month changes swing with peso exchange-rate moves on the foreign-currency part of the debt and with bond maturities. The actual path is lumpy (bonds are sold in batches and repaid on schedules), so the projection will drift; when new monthly figures come out, the clock re-bases to the new official figures.
How often it's published. Monthly. Banco de México publishes each month-end balance (table CG7, series SG193) within about two months; the latest three months are preliminary and are revised. The September 2026 month-end figure is expected from Banco de México within about two months of the month-end; this page re-bases to it automatically on the next daily build after it appears.
Per Mexican divides by CONAPO's estimate of 134,407,258 people on Jul 1, 2026. It is not projected forward, so the live per-Mexican figure rises only with the debt.
Note. Why this measure: the closest Mexican match to the US Total Public Debt Outstanding would be the gross debt of the federal government, which the Finance Ministry (SHCP) publishes in its quarterly reports to Congress. This page uses Banco de México's monthly series instead, because it is the official monthly figure that is machine-readable, and it says so: it is net, and broader than the federal government.
Note. Net, not gross: Banco de México defines these balances as gross debt minus the deposits and liquid assets of the public sector. The US clock is gross. The two cannot be compared one for one.
Note. The Finance Ministry's other measures, for example the Historical Balance of the Public Sector's Financial Requirements (SHRFSP) and federal government debt, use different scopes and are published quarterly and monthly in SHCP reports; they differ from this series.
Note. Population: debt per person divides by CONAPO's projection of the population at mid-year 2026 (1 July), which is a projection and not a count; it is not projected forward.
Note. Figures from source tables may not add exactly because of rounding in the source.
