How it works
Official quarterly figures · projection labelled · sources linkedThe live number = latest official total + (the official change per second over the past 12 months × seconds since that total). Kenya publishes its debt once a quarter, not daily, so this is a projection between quarterly figures, not an official figure.
projected = 13,013,211,000,000 + 38,029.2998 × (seconds since Jun 30, 2026 11:59:59 PM CT)
The rate is the official change from Jun 30, 2025 to Jun 30, 2026: KSh 13,013,211,000,000 − KSh 11,813,919,000,000 = KSh 1,199,292,000,000 over 365 days = KSh 38,029.30 per second. We use the change over the latest twelve months rather than the last quarter because quarterly changes swing with the exchange rate and with issuance. The actual path is lumpy (bonds are sold in batches and repaid on schedules), so the projection will drift; when new quarterly figures come out, the clock re-bases to the new official figures.
How often it's published. Quarterly. The National Treasury publishes a Quarterly Economic and Budgetary Review about six weeks after each quarter ends. The National Treasury publishes a Quarterly Economic and Budgetary Review about six weeks after each quarter ends; this page re-bases to it automatically on the next daily build after it appears.
Per person divides by the KNBS's estimate of 53,330,978 people on Jul 1, 2025. It is not projected forward, so the live per-person figure rises only with the debt.
Note. Why the Treasury's review: it is the National Treasury's own quarterly statement of the debt. The fetcher reads the table with nine consecutive quarter-ends and checks that domestic plus external equals the grand total.
Note. Gross: the Treasury also reports net debt (after deposits); the gross figure is used here.
Note. Provisional: the newest quarter in each report is marked provisional and may be revised in the next review.
Note. Currency: Kenyan shillings. The World Debt Clock converts them to US dollars at the US Treasury's Reporting Rates of Exchange (a quarterly official rate as of 30 September 2026; the page for the World Debt Clock shows the rate and its date).
Note. Figures from source tables may not add exactly because of rounding in the source.
