How it works
Official annual figures · projection labelled · sources linkedThe live number = latest official total + (last year's official change per second × seconds since that total). Qatar publishes its debt once a year, not daily, so this is a projection between annual reports, not an official figure.

The rate is the official change from Dec 31, 2024 to Dec 31, 2025: QAR 338,600,000,000 − QAR 329,221,000,000 = QAR 9,379,000,000 over 365 days = QAR 297.41 per second. We use the change over the last full year, because Qatar publishes only year-end positions. The actual path is lumpy (bonds are sold in batches and repaid on schedules), so the projection will drift; when new annual reports come out, the clock re-bases to the new official figures.
How often it's published. Annual. The Ministry of Finance adds each year-end position to the open-data portal some months after the year closes. This page re-bases to it automatically on the next daily build after it appears.
Per person divides by the PSA's estimate of 3,143,491 people on Jun 30, 2024. It is not projected forward, so the live per-person figure rises only with the debt.
Note. Why the Ministry's dataset: it is the Ministry of Finance's own published series on the government's open-data portal (open licence), with the domestic and external parts. The fetcher checks that the two parts add up to the total.
Note. Annual only: Qatar does not publish a more frequent official debt series that we could find, so the figure is a year-end position and the live number between years is a projection, labelled as such.
Note. Gross: Qatar holds very large financial assets, mostly in the Qatar Investment Authority; none of that is subtracted here.
Note. Currency: Qatari riyals. The riyal is pegged to the US dollar at 3.64 riyals per dollar, which the World Debt Clock uses for conversion.
