How it's calculated. FY2027 to date, budget basis, re-based every business day: DTS FYTD cash through 2026-10-23 ($363.5B) × 0.8238 budget-to-cash ratio from FY2026. Ticks toward the projected close for 2026-10-26: expected cash $34.8B × 0.8238 (non-customs receipts from the same weekdays a year earlier, scaled by the trailing-year growth, plus customs duties from the same business day last month, since tariffs arrive in one monthly lump). Between Treasury statements the figure is our projection; the official number replaces it every business day. FY2026 final (MTS): $5,403.3B. Resets to $0 every Oct 1.

* Per person (projected population) divides by the US population projected to now: the official Census Vintage 2025 estimate for July 1, 2025 (341,784,857), projected forward at Census's stated growth rate (343,051,422 at build time). Per tax return filed divides by 162,754,810 individual income tax returns filed in FY2025 (IRS Data Book, Table 1-2); a joint return counts once and returns with zero tax liability are included.
