Interest paid to bondholders (cash) (FY2027 to date)
How it's calculated. Cash interest paid on Treasury securities FY2027 to date, official through 2026-10-23 and re-based every business day. Treasury pays coupons in lumps on the 15th and at month-end (next business day if that is a holiday or weekend), so the projection follows that calendar: each upcoming payment is estimated from the payment for the same coupon date six months earlier (notes and bonds pay every six months), adjusted for half of its six-month growth; other business days add the median ordinary day ($5.0M). Next projected payment: $31.5B on 2026-11-02. Projected amounts are estimates until Treasury's statement for that day is published.

* Per person (projected population) divides by the US population projected to now: the official Census Vintage 2025 estimate for July 1, 2025 (341,784,857), projected forward at Census's stated growth rate (343,051,422 at build time). Per tax return filed divides by 162,754,810 individual income tax returns filed in FY2025 (IRS Data Book, Table 1-2); a joint return counts once and returns with zero tax liability are included.
